In preparation for the incoming winter months I have been trying to outfit my bike to continue bringing me into work. The winter months here in Haligonia are full of snow and ice and slush, not to mention terrible drivers (although they are here all year round). I am trying to decide whether or not to purchase metal studded tires for my bike, make my own facsimile of studded tires, or just go with knobby rubber treads. I have also put thought into just using studs on my front tire for directional locomotion and using the far cheaper rubber knobs on the back. Price is a major issue as my meagre stipend limits me somewhat both in tire purchases as well as refusal to take the bus (although the bus also has time constraints involved). Has anybody here had any experience with metal studs on their bike or any other words of advice.
In other news, I may get to go to Hawaii soon. That'll make it the farthest trip I've ever made, and also the warmest place I've ever gone to. Here's hoping.
